We are glad to announce opening of fashion exhibition by Monika Zabel “Urban Piligrims – Positions in Advanced Fashion” on October 24 at 5 p.m in Cesis Exhibition hall. Monika is Artist in Residence 2017 of Rucka Residency centre in Cesis.
Urban Pilgrims is reflecting on the theme of travelling, movement between spaces and places; about new impressions, discovery…..and about transition; as Pilgrim, as Traveller, as Refugee, as Explorer.
The materials and inspiration for this collection were found all over the world to which the designer was travelling – Baku and Bruessels, Paris and Hamburg, Cairo and New York…… The “make of” of the collection is entirely based in Cesis and builds on local collaboration and participation.
Urban Pilgrims is a one of its kind fashion collection, utilizing high quality natural garments that have a special history and spirit, re-assembling them and bringing them into a contemporary context. Sustainable design techniques like de-/reconstruction, repurposing and zero waste were consequently applied.
The five urban pilgrims will appear on stage one after the other, until they will be all shown jointly for a short period. Each outfit has its own identity and spirit; the “DNA” of each outfit and the creation process is made transparent in set cards – witnessing what they were and what they are, how they are composed and from which places they come from. The exhibition is completed with objects found in Cesis presented in a small Wunderkammer. Thereafter the work will continue its pilgrimage to be shown in other places.
Closing Matinee will take place on Sunday at 5 November 1 p.m to 4 p.m.
